| This past weekend, the Mid-Hudson Valley Corvette Association hosted a trip to Cooperstown: America’s Sports Car met America’s Pastime. What started as a rainy Friday drive up turned into a beautiful weekend of museums, leaf peeping, great food, and camaraderie. We met in Hopewell Junction and cruised through some scenic roads, reaching Cooperstown midday. After a group lunch at the Doubleday Café, we toured the town individually. Later that day, we reconvened at the Upstate Bar and Grill, with some of us later going to Ommegang Brewery for a band and a bonfire.
Saturday was Baseball Day. We toured the Baseball Hall of Fame. Whether you’re a baseball fan or not, there are exhibits that will bring back childhood memories. The most amazing thing was how many Mets are in the hall- how could such a bad franchise produce so many greats? Of course, there was a stop at the batting cages. Saturday night was capped off with a fine dinner at the Otesaga Resort Hotel, overlooking Otsego Lake.
After checkout on Sunday we took a nice drive to Norwich, home of the Northeast Classic Car Museum. This phenomenal collection boasts rare and vintage cars dating back to the turn of the century, up through the muscle car era. A highlight car in this collection is the 1934 Brewster Town Car owned by Gregg Gerelli. We also toured the diecast model museum across the street. This private collection contains thousands of miniature cars, trucks, fire engines, you name it. The trip ended with another scenic drive home through farms and country mountains on a very sunny, and somewhat warm, autumn day. |
